My Spray Tan Routine

I get it. It is your first spray tan, you are super nervous, and you don’t want to come out looking like a streaky orange. Let me start off by saying getting a custom airbrush spray tan is the way to go. There are so many things with the automated machine at a typical salon that can go wrong, so definitely find someone who can do a custom airbrush tan.

The good thing about having an airbrush tan is your clinician will tell you how to stand, and she will do everything. You just have to stand there and look pretty! This freaks some people out because they may not want anyone to see them in such a vulnerable state, but I’m here to tell you spray tan clinicians have seen it ALL.

When my clients ask me what to do for their first spray tan, I typically send them a PDF file with a HUGE list of do’s and don’t’s, but if you follow this guide, you’ll be prepped and ready for a gorgeous, natural glow.
Pre:
  • Shower, shave, and exfoliate 24 hours in advance. This is my favorite exfoliator to use. You have to purchase it from a professional like MakGlow Tans. Do not apply any moisturizer after the shower because that can block the spray tan solution from evenly absorbing into the skin.
  • Any nail, wax, or other beauty appointments need to be done at least 24 hours in advance.
  • Come to your spray tan appointment without any makeup, deodorant, perfume, or other products.
  • Wear loose, dark colored clothing to your session.

Pro tip: Keep in mind what tan lines will show. If you are going to a formal event wearing a backless dress, I suggest getting your spray tan topless.
After:
  • Your clinician will instruct you on what to do after your spray tan. Tradition spray tans must wait about 8 hours until they can shower, but rapid solutions don’t require that long.
  • During your first shower, only rinse. Do NOT use soap. Pat with a towel to dry yourself. Avoid any harsh rubbing motions when drying.
  • Ask your clinician what products to avoid using after your spray tan.
  • Avoid exposure to water and don’t sweat after your session.
  • MOISTURIZE! Here is one of my favorite moisturizers to use after a spray tan.

Following these steps will definitely help your spray tan turn out as natural, even, and streak-free. There are so many opinions out there, but these are the instructions I give to my clients. The success rate of my clients is incredibly high because my clients take pride in their pre and post care.

Let me know if you have any questions.
xoxo
